Does Counting Calories Work?

There are a number of diets that you can use and methods that you can try when it comes to losing weight. One that people are still on the fence about is the method of counting calories. A number of weight loss organizations (Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, etc.) will often require you to count every single calorie that you put in your mouth. By doing this you are preventing yourself from going overboard without even knowing it. The questions is, “Does this really help?”

You will obviously have the people out there who claim this method to be horrible and they think people should stay as far away from itCounting Calories as possible. First, let me ask you this. How many calories are in a salad that you would get from Applebees? Their delicious Caesar salad with grilled chicken is 800 calories, the crispy shrimp Caesar is 1030, and the grilled steak Caesar is 890.

Surprised? We were! It is amazing at the amount of calories that you would find in a salad. This problem though is in almost every food that we eat. When you look at the back of that wheat bread or the deli meat you will be able to choose something that has fewer calories and less fat.

You will find that the more often you count the calories the less you will desire to eat the foods that are obviously unhealthy for you. It will also allow you to choose foods that will allow you to eat just a little bit more so that you do not have to suffer through the mid afternoon cravings. These can often be our downfall when trying to lose weight.

Some people might be annoyed by this or feel that they are so restricted that they begin to resent the healthy foods that haunt them each time they go grocery shopping. If you find that counting calories is just making you feel like you have no control or that it is not helping you than try to find a new method. You do not want to do anything that will discourage you from losing the weight.
